TEVYE’S GHOST October 16
Russian Jewish folk music—humorous, ironic, and poignant—touched the tormented souls of Soviet-era composers Shostakovich and Prokofiev. Featured performers include the WSO’s concertmaster, Max Zorin, principal cellist, Andrew Rammon, and principal clarinetist, Judith Burke, in Prokofiev’s Overture on Hebrew Themes, and Shostakovich’s Trio No. 2 for Piano, Violin, and Cello.
BAROQUE SPLENDOR November 27
Enjoy an afternoon fit for an eighteenth century monarch. Concertos by Telemann and Marcello spotlight the WSO’s principal trumpeter, Dale Orris, and principal oboist, Susan Laib. Soprano Emily Wertz sings arias by Handel and Purcell and William Ciabattari enchanges his tuba for a baton to conduct J. S. Bach’s Orchestra Suite No. 4 with its beloved Air.
MOSTLY MOZART February 26
“It seemed to me that I was hearing the voice of God” moans Salieri in despair after hearing Mozart’s Gran Partita in Peter Shaffer’s play Amadeus. The woodwinds and horns of the WSO will have their audience feeling only delight at this incomparable masterwork. Brahms’s elegaic Trio for Clarinet, Cello, and Piano completes the program
